Vintage Statuette - Ganesha

This vintage folk brass statuette of Lord Ganesha comes from western Maharashtra and belonged to a rural household where it served both as a devotional object and a cultural presence. Made by hand using list wax casting, the piece carries a simplicity of form that is typical of village craftsmanship — direct, unembellished, yet deeply symbolic.

Ganesha is shown seated under the arch of a naga hood — an unusual feature in folk depictions, possibly added for protection and divine strength. His four arms carry meaningful objects: a lotus in one hand, a modak in another, which his trunk reaches toward with gentle delight. His mouse companion is shown enjoying a modak too — a small but endearing detail that speaks to the warmth and approachability Ganesha embodies in everyday worship.

A Shiva lingam is placed near the base, suggesting the influence of Shaivite belief and the seamless blending of traditions in rural religious life. The brass surface is now darkened and worn from age and use, giving the piece a quiet, lived-in feel.

Though modest in its execution, the statue reflects a deep-rooted devotional culture — shaped by faith, shaped by hand, and held for years in daily reverence.
