Pair of vintage Gauri Heads
This pair of vintage brass Gauri heads from Maharashtra represents regional interpretations of Goddess Parvati, revered in her Gauri form as a symbol of purity, fertility, and auspiciousness. Each head features almond-shaped eyes, small red-painted lips, and detailed ornamentation on the neck and forehead. The traditional styling—including the hair arrangement and facial features—reflects the aesthetic sensibilities of rural Maharashtrian devotional art. Traces of original paint remain visible, offering insight into the visual language and ritual use of such objects, which were often displayed during festivals like Hartalika and Gauri-Ganpati.
