Our Vintage & Rare Books collection brings together books discovered through our travels, collecting and conversations with families, collectors and booksellers. We look for publications that have something beyond their contents: an interesting history, a distinctive edition, beautiful illustrations, an unusual subject or a connection to India and its cultural history.
The collection includes vintage and rare books, older editions, illustrated volumes, books on Indian art and culture, travel and history, photography, architecture and other subjects that offer a glimpse into another time. Some are valuable because they are scarce; others because of their subject, printing, illustrations, provenance or simply the pleasure of holding an old book that has survived decades.
We are particularly drawn to books that carry the traces of their journey. An inscription, an old library stamp, a previous owner's name or the wear on a well-loved binding can sometimes make a book more interesting rather than less.
