Welcome to The Blue Trunk!
I’m Ujval Anand, founder and curator.
What began as a personal passion for collecting has grown into The Blue Trunk, a collection of Indian vintage art, ritual objects, masks, wooden carvings and other cultural finds. Over the years, travel and encounters with collectors, families and artisans have shaped the way I discover and curate these pieces.
At our gallery in Aarey, Mumbai, an old blue trunk remains a symbol of the journey that started it all. Through this website, I’m delighted to share these discoveries with collectors and curious minds, wherever they may be.
I invite you to explore the collection and discover something that speaks to you.

This handcrafted wooden ritual mask depicts Nallagonda, understood within the Naikpod community of Telangana as a locally revered deity or spirit figure. Carved from wood and finished in red pigment, the mask features stylised facial forms and painted surface details characteristic of the visual language of Naikpod ritual art.
The mask reflects an indigenous craft tradition in which carving, colour and ornament contribute to the recognition and representation of culturally significant figures. Its red finish gives the piece a strong visual presence, while the stylised features retain the expressive character of regional folk sculpture.
Masks associated with Naikpod traditions form part of a wider cultural context of ritual observances and performative practices. Such objects offer insight into the relationship between material culture, community belief and inherited artistic knowledge in Telangana. The making of these masks draws on craft practices transmitted within the community.
Today, this Nallagonda mask can be appreciated as a cultural object documenting Naikpod artistic practice and indigenous heritage. Its red surface and distinctive carved form make it a compelling addition to collections of Indian tribal art, Telangana folk sculpture and traditional ritual objects, as well as a striking piece for wall display.
