Kar-i-Munnaqash : Phulai Bowl

This larger papier-mâché bowl rests on a modestly elevated base and opens into a wide circular rim, giving it a balanced and grounded silhouette. Decorated in the traditional Kar-i-Munnaqash style of Kashmir, it features hand-painted bunches of blue blossoms—both along the outer and inner surfaces. These clustered floral forms, known as Phulai, are a signature motif in the region’s decorative arts. The fine brushwork and layered detailing reflect the depth and discipline of this centuries-old craft tradition.
