Wooden Ganesha Kavadi Panel

This exquisite Kavadi shaped panel has Lord Ganesha at the centre, seated on a full bloomed Lotus. The Lord is holding a conch, a hatchet, a lotus and a sweetmeat in each of his four hands which are symbolic of virtues of mankind. The top portion of the panel is shaped like the gopuram of a temple and has detailed engraving on it. The lower portion of the panel has two intricately carved birds and fine motifs all around them. Made of Raintree wood, this collectible is carved in exceptional detail and has a hook on the reverse side for hanging.

Kavadi is used as a part of the well known ceremonial offering practiced by devotees of Lord Murugan (the son of Shiva), as part of the Thaipusam festival in Tamil Nadu. The practice involves devotees carrying a burden/kavadi, to seek Lord Murugan’s help. Devotees usually carry the burdens while walking and dancing along a pilgrimage.
