This handcrafted wooden mask represents Hanumana, a revered deity in Hindu tradition, as interpreted by the Naikpod tribal artisans of Telangana. Carved from locally sourced wood and painted in a deep red hue, the mask features large, expressive eyes and a distinctive moustache with twirled ends. The ears are prominently sculpted, each adorned with three ornamental dots. A Shaivite Tripundra, consisting of three horizontal lines, is marked on the forehead, signifying devotion to Lord Shiva. Traditionally, such masks are integral to Naikpod rituals and festivals, serving both religious and cultural purposes. This piece exemplifies the community's artisanal skill and dedication to preserving their heritage.
