Vintage Statuette - Krishna
This vintage brass statuette of Lord Krishna originates from Uttar Pradesh, a region deeply associated with Krishna bhakti and long-standing devotional traditions. Of a good, substantial size, the piece carries a strong visual and devotional presence, and would have once formed an important part of a domestic shrine, reflecting the intimate yet assured nature of everyday worship in the region.
Krishna is shown standing cross-legged on a circular pedestal, his weight gently shifted in a relaxed, graceful stance. His head is slightly tilted to the left, and his arms are positioned as if holding and playing the flute, capturing a moment of quiet musical reverie. The facial features and proportions are clearly defined, typical of North Indian devotional metalwork, lending the figure a serene expression and gentle charm central to Krishna imagery.
The figure was cast using the lost-wax method, a traditional technique in which a detailed wax model is created, encased in clay, and then melted away to make space for molten metal. This process allows for precise detailing in a single cast, resulting in subtle variations that make each piece unique.
The surface shows only light, honest ageing, with very little patina, suggesting careful preservation rather than heavy ritual handling. The metal retains much of its original clarity, allowing the sculptural details to remain fully visible. A well-balanced and evocative collectible, this Krishna statuette embodies quiet devotion and refined craftsmanship rooted in the sacred geography of Uttar Pradesh.
Wipe the piece with a soft, dry cloth. Do not expose it to direct sunlight, dampness, heat or cold.
