Vintage Vishnu Marapachi Statuette
This vintage Marapachi doll represents Lord Vishnu, carved in traditional form from red sanders wood. He is adorned with ornaments and wears a peaked crown, reflecting his divine stature. The figure has four hands—two holding a conch, while the lower left arm rests gently at his side and the lower right is raised in a gesture of blessing.
Marapachi dolls are an integral part of Golu—the festive display of dolls during Navaratri in South India. Traditionally made of wood and handed down through generations, these dolls often depict deities or royal figures and are symbolic of health, fertility, and continuity of cultural practices. Lord Vishnu’s presence in a Golu arrangement reflects themes of protection and sustenance, in line with his role in the Hindu pantheon.
