Pair of vintage Deepalakshmi Lamps on Elephants
This lamp, originating from 19th-century Maharashtra, stands as a captivating testament to artistic ingenuity. Two poised female figures, resembling mermaids in their lower bodies, stand gracefully atop sturdy elephants. Each figure cradles an oil well in their extended hands, featuring almond-shaped eyes, delicate noses, and lips adorned with intricate jewelry on their ears, necks, and wrists. The elephants, mounted on an elevated rectangular base, boast a exquisite simplistic design elevating the lamp's visual allure. What sets this lamp apart is its modular design, consisting of three detachable parts—the deepalakshmi figurines, the elephants, and the base. Notably, small protrusions behind the heads of the deepalakshmis suggest a unique feature: potential holders for removable naagas, as observed in similar examples of deepalakshmis.
