Welcome to The Blue Trunk!
I’m Ujval Anand, founder and curator.
What began as a personal passion for collecting has grown into The Blue Trunk, a collection of Indian vintage art, ritual objects, masks, wooden carvings and other cultural finds. Over the years, travel and encounters with collectors, families and artisans have shaped the way I discover and curate these pieces.
At our gallery in Aarey, Mumbai, an old blue trunk remains a symbol of the journey that started it all. Through this website, I’m delighted to share these discoveries with collectors and curious minds, wherever they may be.
I invite you to explore the collection and discover something that speaks to you.

This intricately carved acacia wood panel features a Simha Vyala, also known as a Yali, depicted atop an elephant. Drawing on the visual vocabulary of traditional Indian temple art, the composition brings together mythical imagery and finely executed wood carving.
The lion-like Vyala is distinguished by carefully rendered features and sculptural detail, complemented by the natural grain patterns of the acacia wood. Additional decorative motifs carved across the panel enrich the composition and highlight the skill and attention to detail involved in its making.
Designed for versatile display, the panel can be mounted on a wall or displayed as a freestanding artwork. It comes fitted with a removable cast iron stand and a wall hook, allowing flexibility in placement. With its sculptural presence, intricate detailing and traditional Indian iconography, this carved wooden panel makes a distinctive addition to interiors featuring Indian art, architectural elements and heritage objects.
