Kar-i-Munnaqash - Sumbhal
This handcrafted vase is an example of Kar-i-Munnaqash, a traditional Kashmiri craft that involves detailed hand-painting on papier-mâché surfaces. Made entirely from papier-mâché, the vase features delicate motifs of Sumbhal (water hyacinth) leaves painted in soft cream and pink tones. The restrained palette and fine brushwork reflect the precision and control typical of this craft. Kar-i-Munnaqash has been practiced in Kashmir for centuries and is commonly used to decorate both functional and ornamental items.
