Kashmiri Papier-Mâché Vase | Hazaara Chinar Leaf Design
This Kashmiri papier-mâché vase is decorated using Kar-i-Munnaqash, a traditional painting technique associated with Kashmir’s papier-mâché craft. Set against a rich, deep blue ground, intricate hand-painted Chinar leaves cover the surface in a dense, repeating pattern.
The design is known as Hazaara, meaning “a thousand,” a reference to the abundance of motifs across the surface. The Chinar leaf, closely associated with Kashmiri culture and landscape, gives the vase a distinctive regional identity. Fine brushwork and carefully arranged patterns reflect the precision and balance characteristic of this decorative tradition.
The vase brings together a strong colour palette and detailed botanical ornament. Its tall form makes it suitable for display on a console, shelf or tabletop, either as a standalone decorative object or alongside other examples of Kashmiri craftsmanship and Indian traditional art.
