Vintage Statuette - Vishnu
This vintage brass statuette of Lord Vishnu originates from Andhra Pradesh. Modest in scale yet rich in devotional presence, the piece reflects the region’s enduring tradition of intimate, everyday worship rooted in Vaishnavite practice.
Vishnu is depicted with four arms — the upper hands holding the conch (shankha) and discus (chakra), while the lower hands are arranged in blessing and protection mudras. The facial features and proportions typical of this region are clear, sharp, and well-defined, giving the figure a composed expression and a sense of calm authority characteristic of Andhra devotional metalwork.
The figure was cast using the lost-wax method, a traditional technique in which a detailed wax model is created, encased in clay, and then melted away to make space for molten metal. This process allows for precise detailing in a single cast, resulting in subtle variations that make each piece unique.
The surface shows only light, honest ageing, with very little patina development — suggesting careful preservation rather than heavy ritual handling. The metal retains much of its original clarity, allowing the craftsmanship and sculptural details to remain fully visible. A restrained yet evocative collectible, this piece carries quiet devotion without overt ornamentation.
Wipe the piece with a soft, dry cloth. Do not expose it to direct sunlight, dampness, heat or cold.
