The ancient art of Dhokra lost wax metal casting is named after the Dhokra Damar tribes whose origins are from West Bengal and Odisha. Their artwork is treasured for its folk art motifs and primitive, yet intricate, forms. This horse and rider figure is an excellent example. The horse is arrayed with a double row of body straps and his mane is braided. The turbaned warrior riding bareback is holding a short bladed sword and is wearing a uniform. The fine piece of vintage art makes an excellent collectible.
