Kar-i-Munnaqash : Hazaara Vase
This papier-mâché vase is crafted using Kar-i-Munnaqash, a traditional Kashmiri painting technique applied to papier-mâché surfaces. The vase is painted in pastel green and features intricate hand-painted motifs of Chinar leaves, a symbol strongly associated with Kashmiri culture. The dense, repeating pattern of the leaves gives the piece its name—Hazaara, meaning “a thousand,” referencing the abundance of Chinar motifs. The work showcases the precision, balance, and fine brushwork that define this centuries-old craft.
