Welcome to The Blue Trunk!
I’m Ujval Anand, the founder—and I’m so glad you’re here.
The Blue Trunk isn’t just about artifacts; it’s about stories, memories, and the magic of India’s heritage. My journey began in the corporate world, but my heart always belonged to travel, culture, and art. Collecting pieces of history filled me with a joy I couldn’t ignore—and that joy grew into The Blue Trunk.
At the heart of our Bombay gallery sits an old blue trunk—a symbol of everything we stand for. Today, I’m thrilled to share that same charm with you, wherever you are in India. Through our website, you can now explore and experience the collection anytime, from anywhere.
So, take a wander, discover what speaks to you, and let’s keep the magic alive—together.
With warmth,
Ujval Anand

This rare vintage betel box, exquisitely crafted in the form of a peacock, reflects the enduring union of symbolism and function in Indian ritual objects. Traditionally used to store betel leaves and areca nut, such boxes played an important role in domestic hospitality, ceremonial exchange, and social rituals across India.
The peacock—India’s national bird—is a powerful symbol of beauty, protection, fertility, and divine grace, and features prominently in royal, temple, and South Indian iconography, particularly in association with Kartikeya (Murugan). The stylised form captures the elegance of the bird while elevating a utilitarian container into a sculptural object of cultural resonance.
Notably, this piece survives in very good condition, with crisp detailing and a well-preserved surface. The natural patina enhances its character without compromising form or integrity—an increasingly rare quality in ritual objects of this nature.
While originally intended for ritual use, the betel box now lends itself beautifully to contemporary reinterpretation, whether as a sculptural tabletop accent, a cabinet object, or part of a curated display of ritual artifacts.
