Vintage Brass Rukmini
A very fine miniature vintage idol of godess Rukmini. The piece is over 70 years old and has been beautifully crafted depicting the goddess in all her glory. A closer examination reveals very fine work on her headdress, ornaments and the robe. Despite its age, the piece is in great condition and has gathered a lovely patina overtime.
Rukmini is the principal wife and queen of Lord Krishna, the king of Dwaraka. Krishna heroically kidnapped her and eloped with her to prevent an unwanted marriage at her request and saved her from an evil Shishupala (described in the Bhagabata Purana). Rukmini is the first and most prominent queen of Krishna. Rukmini is also considered an avatar of Lakshmi, the Goddess of fortune.
