Welcome to The Blue Trunk!
I’m Ujval Anand, founder and curator.
What began as a personal passion for collecting has grown into The Blue Trunk, a collection of Indian vintage art, ritual objects, masks, wooden carvings and other cultural finds. Over the years, travel and encounters with collectors, families and artisans have shaped the way I discover and curate these pieces.
At our gallery in Aarey, Mumbai, an old blue trunk remains a symbol of the journey that started it all. Through this website, I’m delighted to share these discoveries with collectors and curious minds, wherever they may be.
I invite you to explore the collection and discover something that speaks to you.

This Tanjore-style devotional painting depicts Rama Pattabhishekam, the coronation of Lord Rama, a significant episode from the Ramayana. Executed on a wooden panel shaped like a traditional temple gopuram, the artwork brings together rich colours, detailed figures and the visual language of South Indian devotional art.
Lord Rama, revered as the seventh avatar of Lord Vishnu, occupies the central position in the composition. He is accompanied by Sita, Hanuman and the Saptarishis, among other figures, bringing together key personalities associated with the epic and its devotional traditions. The coronation represents Rama’s return to Ayodhya and the restoration of righteous rule.
The tall, temple-inspired silhouette distinguishes this piece from a conventional rectangular painting. Its architectural form, intricate detailing and vibrant palette give the composition a layered quality, while the wooden panel provides a substantial base for the artwork.
Suitable for a home shrine, living room or collection of Indian devotional art, this piece reflects the enduring appeal of Ramayana imagery and the decorative traditions associated with South Indian temple art.
Wipe the piece with a soft, dry cloth. Do not expose it to direct sunlight, dampness, heat or cold.
