Welcome to The Blue Trunk!
I’m Ujval Anand, founder and curator.
What began as a personal passion for collecting has grown into The Blue Trunk, a collection of Indian vintage art, ritual objects, masks, wooden carvings and other cultural finds. Over the years, travel and encounters with collectors, families and artisans have shaped the way I discover and curate these pieces.
At our gallery in Aarey, Mumbai, an old blue trunk remains a symbol of the journey that started it all. Through this website, I’m delighted to share these discoveries with collectors and curious minds, wherever they may be.
I invite you to explore the collection and discover something that speaks to you.

This finely hand-carved Indian woman wooden sculpture depicts a woman in a traditional saree carrying a pot balanced on her head. Carved from white cedar wood, the figure is rendered with remarkable attention to the folds of the saree, hairstyle, facial features and posture.
The sculpture captures the visual character of an everyday Indian woman through detailed figurative wood carving. The pot balanced on her head, carefully rendered drapery and naturalistic stance evoke scenes of everyday life that have long found expression in Indian folk art and traditional decorative craftsmanship.
The fine carving extends across the figure, from the delicately styled hair and expressive face to the ornamental details of the clothing. The natural grain of the white cedar adds warmth and texture to the carved surface, allowing the workmanship to remain central to the piece.
Measuring 8.5 inches in height and 3 inches in length, this compact wooden figure is well suited to collectors of Indian wood sculptures, folk-inspired art and traditional handcrafted objects.
Wipe the piece with a soft, dry cloth. Do not expose it to direct sunlight, dampness, heat or cold.
