This vintage hand-beaten copper pot from Gujarat is an example of India's long tradition of functional and utilitarian metalwork. Formed from sheets of copper through repeated hammering over an anvil, the vessel retains visible hammer marks, subtle variations in thickness and surface irregularities that record the traditional process through which it was made.

Copper vessels of this type were widely used across India for storing water and other household materials, as well as in domestic and ritual settings. Their durability made copper an important material for everyday vessels, while the practical properties of the metal contributed to its continued use across generations.

The pot's rounded form and substantial scale give it a strong functional character. Measuring 8 × 8 × 8 inches, it has the proportions of a substantial household vessel while retaining the simplicity associated with traditional Indian utilitarian objects.

Decades of use have given the copper a naturally developed patina, with variations in tone and surface character reflecting age, handling and exposure. The hammer marks remain visible across the surface, offering a direct connection to the artisan's process and distinguishing the vessel from mechanically manufactured metalware.

Today, this vintage Gujarat copper pot can be appreciated as a collectible example of vernacular Indian metalwork, documenting both traditional craftsmanship and the important role of utilitarian vessels in everyday material culture. Its simple form, aged surface and hand-worked character make it equally suited to a collection of Indian objects or as a sculptural element within a contemporary interior.
