Vintage Brass Flower Basket | Jaaliwork | Tamil Nadu

This elegant vintage brass flower basket from Tamil Nadu is a finely crafted example of traditional Indian metalwork, distinguished by its delicate jaaliwork and unusual low, open form. Over 50 years old, the basket combines functional design with intricate decorative workmanship.

The finely pierced jaali pattern gives the brass surface a light and ornamental quality, creating an interplay of openings and solid metal. A distinctive feature is the four small pods at the base, which slightly elevate the basket above the tabletop while adding to its sculptural character.

The basket is topped with a raised handle, giving it a practical form for carrying or arranging flowers. Its proportions, pierced detailing and carefully worked brass construction reflect the attention given to both utility and ornament in traditional Indian household objects.

Sourced from Tamil Nadu, the piece has developed a natural patina over decades, adding warmth and character to the brass. Its compact profile makes it equally suited to displaying flowers or being appreciated as a decorative example of vintage South Indian metalwork.
