Handcarved White Cedar Apsara Bust Emerging from Lotus | Kerala

This finely hand-carved Apsara wooden sculpture depicts an Apsara emerging gracefully from an open lotus, carved from white cedar wood. The figure’s serene facial features, stylised hair and flowing form are complemented by the lotus that forms the base of the composition.

The Apsara is a celestial female figure associated with beauty, grace and the arts in Indian mythology and visual traditions. Here, the figure is presented in a compact sculptural form, with the open lotus providing both a natural base and an important element of the composition.
