Mid-20th Century Krishna Rukmini Satyabhama Chromolithograph | Tamil Nadu
This mid-20th century chromolithograph from Tamil Nadu depicts Lord Krishna flanked by his consorts Rukmini and Satyabhama, presented in a richly composed devotional setting. The three figures are rendered with the idealised beauty and serene presence characteristic of traditional Indian devotional prints.
Krishna, Rukmini and Satyabhama are an important subject within Vaishnava devotional imagery. Krishna is shown at the centre, with Rukmini and Satyabhama beside him, creating a balanced and formal composition rooted in the devotional print traditions through which sacred imagery was brought into homes and personal spaces.
The chromolithographic process enabled richly coloured devotional images to be reproduced and circulated widely, playing an important role in the history of Indian popular and devotional art. This print carries the visual character of that tradition through its detailed figures, ornamental treatment and formal devotional composition.
The artwork is presented in its original vintage wooden frame, which adds to its character as a mid-20th century collectible. At The Blue Trunk, we carefully preserve vintage oleographs and chromolithographs while making considered interventions where necessary. Where required, original glass may be replaced with acrylic for safer handling and shipping, and deteriorated backboards may be replaced to protect the artwork.
The result is a preserved vintage devotional print that retains its original character while being suitable for contemporary display.
